The Prosecutor's Duty

"It shall be the primary duty of [the prosecutor] not to convict, but to see that Justice is done. They shall not suppress facts or secrete witnesses capable of establishing the innocence of the accused."

Travis County Attorney

David Escamilla is the elected County Attorney for Travis County. This office is responsible for, among other things, the prosection of most misdemeanor offenses. There are 25 Assistant County Attorneys assigned to the five county courts which have jurisdiction over these misdemeanor cases. This office handles approximately 33,000 cases each year.

Travis County District Attorney

Ronnie Earle is the elected District Attorney for Travis County. This office is responsible for, among other things, the prosecution of Felony offenses. There are 68 Assistant District Attorneys assigned to the six criminal District courts which have jurisdiction over felony cases. This office handles approximately 14,000 cases each year.
